BETTY WILLIAMS

          Elizabeth L. “Betty” Williams, 88, of Knob Fork, WV passed away on February 6, 2024 at her home in Knob Fork.

          She was born March 20, 1935 to Wilbert Murphy and Edna Stockdale Murphy.

          Betty grew up in her childhood home at Knob Fork on the farm she loved; milking cows, helping her mother put up the vegetables her dad raised in the garden and she loved her pet lamb and baby calf.

          After high school in 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, George Williams, while he was serving in the Navy in Rhode Island.  Afterward they moved back to Betty’s homeplace and George was hired to manage the Hundred Insurance Agency.

          Betty kept busy raising their two children, Brian & Erin, helping with the activities of the Hundred United Methodist Church such as teaching Sunday School and vacation bible school.  She served as the treasurer of the church for more than 17 years.

          She was also a 4-H club leader for 32 years and helped manage the 4-H food stand, taught crafts at 4-H camp and stayed overnight as a counselor.

          After 68 years of marriage George passed away in March of 2022.

She is survived by her two children; three grandchildren, Abigail and Becker, Jared and his wife Molly, and Jordan and his wife Jess; and three great-grandchildren, Paxton, Boden, and Chase.

          In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gayle Bales and Thelma Booth; and three brothers, Jim Murphy, Joe Murphy, and a brother Jackie Murphy who died as an infant.

          All services will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family.  Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Lynn Keener and burial will follow in the Carney Cemetery near Knob Fork.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the:  Hundred United Methodist Church, c/o Linda Henderson, Treasurer, 4721 Low Gap Run Road, Littleton, WV   26581.
