MARTIN R. WHITEMAN

Martin R. Whiteman, more commonly known as Marty or Whitey, died Friday December 7, 2018 at his residence.

He was born January 11, 1935 New Martinsville, a son of the late James Whiteman and Pearl Thomas Whiteman.

Marty worked at various jobs during his lifetime.  He worked at Ormet as a crane operator and worked in the pot room.  He lived in Wyoming for a while and worked on his father-in-law’s sheep farm.

He was a United States Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.

Whitey loved farming, raising sheep, gardening, hunting, fishing, making his famous spaghetti sauce, and making his delicious apple pies.  He had volunteered with the Wetzel County Emergency Ambulance Authority as an EMT for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Lora Groseclose Whiteman; two sons and their spouses, Martin Whiteman Jr. and his wife Lisa of Silver Hill and Daniel Whiteman and his companion Emily Six of Hundred; three daughters and their spouses, Debbie and Alan Miller of Pine Grove, Janet and Rusty Nice of Pine Grove, Becky and Scott Summers of Grafton; one step-daughter, Amie Ely and her companion Jason Smith of Houston, TX; one brother, James Whiteman of Oahu, Hawaii; one sister, Braxie Hunt of Sistersville; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-nieces, Areonna Zarco and Tationna Adams.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son, Benjamin Whiteman; four sisters, Mable Hilton, Opal Simpson, Georgia Sands, and Pearl Seckman; and four brothers, Francis Whiteman, Clarence Whiteman, Edgar Whiteman, and Everett Whiteman.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Journey Hospice, Wetzel County Committee on Aging, and Regina Derby for their care and compassion shown to Marty and his family during his illness.

Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 3-6 PM Wednesday.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 6:00 PM with Gordon Groseclose officiating.

I am so sorry to hear of this, I just found out or I would have most definitely came to the services, you are all in my prayers and Daniel you are on my mind! Whitey was an amazing person and the best cool I've ever met!
