Mary “Evelyn” Pope, 70, of Daybrook, died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at her residence.
She was born July 20, 1945 at Middletown, MD, a daughter of the late Caynor Newton Spurlock and Stella Mae Gobble Spurlock.
Mrs. Pope worked most of her life as a waitress. She loved to crochet, knit, and play bingo. She loved to be in the outdoors.
Evelyn was Baptist by faith.
Surviving are three sons, Douglas Tabler of Huntingdon, PA, Michael Pope of Grant Town, and Henry Pope of Daybrook; one daughter, Lakeisha Watkins of Daybrook; one brother, James Spurlock of Satsuma, Florida; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion, Donald Mathis; one daughter Donna Tabler who died as an infant; one sister, Norma Jean Jackson; and three brothers, Clyde Spurlock, Claude Spurlock, and Dewey Spurlock.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, WV from 6-8 PM Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM Tuesday with the Rev. Freddie Eddy, II officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Monrovia, MD at 1:00PM.
