ROGER KENT BOGGESS

          Roger Kent Boggess, Sr, 80 of Morgantown, WV formerly of Burton near Hundred, WV passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV due to injuries sustained in a MV accident on Monday, February 19, 2024.

          He was born September 17, 1943, the son of the Late William Rex Boggess and Iva Pearl (Miller) Boggess.

          Surviving is his wife, Joyce (Shafer) Boggess.  They were united in marriage on June 29, 2012.

          His first wife, Bonita Mae (Hall) Boggess, whom he married January 12, 1963, preceded him in death on December 8, 1985.  Bonnie is the mother of his five boys.

          He attended Lumberport High School, then joined the United States Army in March, 1961.  Roger was a proud United States veteran and served his country honorably.

          Roger retired from Eastern Association Coal Corp.-Federal No. 2 Mine with 27 years of dedicated service.  After retiring from the mine, he worked for Francis Engineering in Morgantown for approximately 12 years.

          He is survived by 5 sons:  Roger K. Boggess, Jr. (Nancy), Daniel R. Boggess, (DellAnn), Richard A. Boggess, Gerald W. Boggess, (Holly) and James M. Boggess (Christine).

Also surviving are three step-sons:  Aaron L. Boggess (Tiffany), Chad N. Boggess (Holly), and Jonathan M. Boggess, (Ashley).

          Additionally surviving are 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 6 step-granddaughters that loved him greatly.

          His sisters surviving him:  Garnett Y. Dennison, Phyllis G. Pigott, (Dave, and one brother, Denver R. Boggess, (Judy).  And many nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is an ex-wife, Donna Boggess and her daughter, Stephanie King, whom he raised from a young age.

          In addition to his parents and his first wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Lou Holt and Maxine Bacon.

          He attended the Calvary Baptist Church located at 519 Burroughs Street in Morgantown, WV.

          Roger loved being with family and friends.  He also loved his neighbors and always had time to stop and chat.  Everyone who really knew him, loved him dearly and will surely miss him.  He loved watching Nascar on TV and going to the Nascar races.

          Friends and family will be received at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 4 to 9PM.

          Funeral services will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 519 Burrough Street, Morgantown, WV on Monday at 11:45AM.  Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

          Burial with follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery at Grafton with full military honors.
