RUBY GAIL WALKER

          Ruby Gail Walker, 99, of Jakes Run was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, just four days before her 100th birthday.

          Ruby was born in Core, the oldest child of Ollie Walker and Mildred Henderson Walker on July 15, 1923. 

          She is survived by two nieces, Nancy Walker Facemire and husband Jeff of Sanford, NC, and Joyce Walker Bennett and husband Rob of Jakes Run; one nephew, David Walker and his wife Tracy of Fairmont; four great-nephews, Andrew Facemire and wife Carolyn of Apex, NC, Daniel Facemire of Jakes Run, Justin Bennett of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jack Walker of Fairmont; three great-nieces, Emily Bennett and husband Raffaele of Brooklyn, NY, Grace Walker of Fairmont, and Lucy Walker of Fairmont; two great-great-nieces, Lena and Airlie Facemire of Apex, NC and one great-great-nephew, Phoenix Bodenheimer of Flower Mound, TX.  She is also survived by one uncle, who she grew up with, Alden “Bill” Henderson of Naperville, IL, and a special Henderson cousin, Nancy Elkins and husband Emory of Longmont, CO.

          She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Neva Ruth “Noggie” Walker, her cousin, Mary Catherine Walker, who was raised as a sister and her brother, Robert Walker and his wife Minnie.

          Ruby was a 1942 graduate of Clay-Battelle High School.  During the great depression, she and her family lived in Hutchinson, Kansas where her father worked in the oil fields. 

          After graduation, Ruby worked for her Uncle Sam Henderson in his grocery store in Osage with her sister, Neva.  Ruby retired from Westinghouse, North American Phillips after 42 years of service.  She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Jakes Run Assembly of God where she served as the church board secretary for over 30 years and loved singing in the choir.  She had a beautiful singing voice and loved music.  Every Saturday she took Nancy and Joyce to accordion lessons at Morgan’s Music Shop.  Ruby loved to read until her eyesight failed her.  She walked every day & gardened and took care of the lawn.  Ruby was the best aunt you could ever have.  She encouraged music, education, and a relationship with God and the importance of family and family history.  Ruby and Neva were both stylish women.  They were always wearing the nicest clothes, shoes, and accessories.  She loved her annual shopping trips to downtown Pittsburgh with her Aunt Lois.  She carried on her shopping tradition with her nieces and great niece Emily.  Ruby loved family vacations to Willow Valley, Lancaster, PA and Ocean City, NJ with her whole family.  Ruby was truly an extraordinary woman.

          Friends may call at the Jakes Run Assembly of God on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held in the church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Rob Bennett officiating.  Interment will follow in the St. Luke Cemetery at Mooresville.

          The Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville is in charge of arrangements.
