Beatrice Hitchner, 79, of Fairview, WV and also of Bridgeton, NJ died peacefully Friday morning, August 3, 2007 in the Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown. She was under hospice care at the time of her death.

The wife of the late David Hitchner, Sr., who died in 1983, they were married for over thirty years. Born in Perry County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John Marshall and the late Maggie Marshall. She spent her childhood in Bradshaw, WV and attended school there.

Following high school, she moved to Baltimore, MD at the onset of World War II, where she took a job manufacturing airplanes in support of the war effort. At the completion of the war, she moved to Bridgeton and began a career with Owens-Illinois Glass Company in the selecting department. She retired after twenty-five years of service.

The highlight of Mrs. Hitchner's life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent her years of retirement between her homes in West Virginia and New Jersey to spend time with her family. She enjoyed handiwork including crocheting and quilting and spent many days metal detecting with her husband. She was also and avid reader, gardener and cook who was known for excellant canning but was famous for her homemade donuts and apple cider that she made once a year, at Halloween.

Surviving are one daughter, B. Norma Martorana and her husband James of Bridgeton, NJ; two sons, David F. Hitchner, Jr. of Daybrook, WV and Daniel Marshall of Florida, eight grandchildren, John J. Widener and his wife Kelley, Brian C. Widener and his fiance' Jennifer Stidham, James J. Martorana Jr., David F. Hitchner III, Sgt. Amy Lynn Brack and her husband, Sgt. Ryan Brack, Amanda Lynn Hitchner, Daniel T. Hitchner and Emmitt B. Hitchner, four great-grandchildren, Alexis Widener, Ceirra Widener, John J. Widener III, and Brian C. Widener, Jr. and many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Freitag Funeral Home in Bridgeton, NJ on Thursday August 9, from 10:00 AM until the service hour at 11:00 AM.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Donald K. Harrington of the Berean Baptist Temple officiating.

Interment will follow in the Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.

Local arrangements were handled by the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville, WV.
