Janie Lee Brooks, 88, of Pentress went home to the Lord on Sunday, January 16, 2005 following a brief illness.

She was born March 5, 1916 in Grassy Creek near Copper Hill, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Crawford and Carrie Allen. On December 23, 1933 she married Ernie Brooks, who preceded her in death on August 9, 1991.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, June and Norris Tennant, Frances Sue and Mack King; two daughters, Phyllis Jane Brooks and Gerry Rowan, and one son and his wife, Roger Allen and Joanne Brooks; all of the Pentress area. Janie is survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Margaret Tennant of Pentress; and Janie's beloved dog, Benji.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald D. Brooks, and one grandson, Ronnie Moore; two sisters and spouses; Maudie May and Floyd Stewart and Anna Marie and Robert Hughes, one brother, William H. Allen, and one great-grandson, Orian VanGilder, and two nephews, Bobby Yost and Richard Fletcher.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sanjay Bharti and Dr. Kimberly Stearns, the Monongalia General ICU, and the 4th floor nursing staff for the kindness and compassion shown to Janie and her family.

Friends may call at the Jakes Run Assembly of God Church, from 2 to 9 PM Tuesday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Joe West presiding. Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Hillberry, II, Roger Brooks, II, Christopher Tennant, I, Eric Moore, Edmund Dayton and Jim Walker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Tennant, II, Cody Tennant, Chandler Tennant, Cameron Tennant, Kevin Scott McCauley, Carson Squires, Dylan Vasquez, Raymond Copeland Jr, and Wyatt Tennant.

The Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville is in charge of arrangements.
