Wilma Rose Steel Shriver better known as “Mom-Mom”, 101, of Wadestown, WV died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at her residence.
She was born March 11, 1914 at Miracle Run, a daughter of the late Beecher Steel and Clare Virginia “Jenny” Barth Steel.
Mrs. Shriver was a graduate of Wadestown High School in 1932. She worked at Wadestown Elementary School as a cook for many years and also served as the Wadestown Postmistress until she retired.
She was a long time member of the West Warren Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 50 years and she was an original member of the Wadestown Volunteer Fire Department.
Wilma participated in 4-H for many years and achieved her charting pin and 4-H Allstar status.
Her family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Rose Thomas, Sue Willard Eddy, & Joni Jenkins for their love, care, and compassion to Mom-Mom. They would also like to thank Aaron Hoekje, PA and Andrea Tardivo, PA for all that they did to assist the family with Wilma’s care.
She loved life on the farm tending to the cows and sheep. She also loved traveling with Gouge to horse shoe tournaments throughout the nation.
The last several years she received great joy by visits from family and friends and attending church.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Barbara Sue Shriver; one grandson and his wife, Gregory L. Shriver and wife Debra; one granddaughter, Pamela L. Shriver; one great-grandson and his wife, Christopher Shriver and his wife Tracy; one great-great-grandson, Micah James Howard Shriver; two sisters, Jeannette Robey and Eileen Maher, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Solomon Howard “Gouge” Shriver; one son, Howard Arnette Shriver; her brother and his wife, Chester Ralph Steel and his wife JoAnn Steel; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Robey and Gerry Maher; and two nephews.
Friends may call at the West Warren Baptist Church in Wadestown on Friday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at 2:00. Funeral services will be held in the church at 2:00 with Pastor George Murphy, Pastor Dave Spears, Pastor Jeff Musgrave, and Rev. Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in the Wadestown Cemetery.
