Richard Paul Jones passed away on October 8, 2015 in the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, of complications following cardiac bypass surgery. He was 66 years old.
Richard, known as Rick or “Ricky” to his family and friends, was born in Fairview on December 11, 1948.
He is survived by his wife, Jerelyn Sue (Snyder) Jones, whom he married in March of 1971; children, Elizabeth Ann (Beth) Curry (Jared) and daughter Ava of Norfolk, VA; Samantha Lynn Harkins (Chris) and son William of Lansing, MI; Richard Paul Jones II (Beckie) and son Ben of Norfolk, VA, and Andrew (Rebecca) Jones of Morgantown.
He is also survived by a brother William Kenneth (Cheryl) Jones of Hagerstown, MD; a sister, Janice Kay (Tiny) Smith of Hundred, and a brother, Jackie Ray (Ranee) Jones of Tuscaloosa, AL and several nieces and nephews.
His father Chancy Homer (Casey) Jones and mother Mary Marie Lough Jones, as well as a brother John Eugene Jones, a sister Candy Jean and a brother-in-law Charles Lee Smith preceded him in death.
Rich was a 1966 graduate of Hundred High School and attended the Hundred Methodist Church prior to moving from the area.
His hobbies included watching old John Wayne movies and other old westerns, simply watching TV, working jigsaw puzzles, tending his lawn and flowers with his wife and keeping his car spotless.
His family were the most important people in the world to him, and he loved spending time with them. They were the love of his life.
Rick served in the United States Army from 1966-1970 and one tour in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He was a disabled veteran who was exposed to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam.
He was a member of the Earl Kiger American Legion Post #120 of Hundred where he served as the finance officer for several years in the 70’s.
He worked for Consolidation Coal during the early 70’s and other area mines, but had been employed at Eastern Associated Coal (Patriot Coal) Federal #2 Mine for nearly thirty years. Many would probably agree that Rick was one of the hardest workers God ever created.
