Asa W. Mercer, Jr.,79, of Pennsboro, WV died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at his residence.
He was born January 6, 1933 at Fairview, WV, a son of the late Asa W. Mercer and Ruby L. Tennant Mercer.
Mr. Mercer was a retired filler operator in the dairy industry while living in New Jersey and he was a methodist by faith.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Joan Cooke Mercer; and his two children, James Mercer and Janet Haines. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Frankie Hill, Melanie Ellis, Daniela Gutfuiseh, Susie Madures, Jason Mercer, and Samantha Haines, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon Mercer of Wadestown and Nolan Mercer of Metz; and one sister, Delma Jean Jones of Mannington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Waneta Joy Hill; one brother, Joseph T. Mercer, and one sister Virginia Brewer.
Friends will be received at the Tennant Funeral Home (304-775-2555) in Hundred, WV from 6-8 PM Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Wednesday with the Rev. Elizabeth Carson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Forest Cemetery near Hundred.
