Charles W. "Charlie" Garner, 92, of Burton, WV died Friday, July 6, 2012 in the Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale.
He was born June 29, 1920 at Washington, DC, a son of the late Charles T. Garner and Alice E. Hurdle Garner.
Charlie was a retired asbestos worker and was a member of the Asbestos Workers Local #24 of Washington, DC.
He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the European Theater during World War II and a member of the Earl Kiger American Legion Post #120 of Hundred.
Mr. Garner was a former member of the Washington DC Football Officials Association and he officiated football games for Hundred High School for many years.
Surviving are one sister, Catherine Carrico of San Jose, CA; his caregiver, Deborah Dotson of Hundred; nieces and nephews, Dave McLean of Toronto, OH, Bill McLean of Steubenville, OH, Bonnie McLean of Berlin, MD, and Sandra Rowell of Elkridge, MD.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Garner, who died on March 23, 2008 and one sister, Evelyn Garner.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 7-9 PM Monday. At the request of the deceased there will not be a funeral service. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday with the Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating at Cunningham Memorial Gardens in Burton. Interment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Gardens.
