Dr. Howard Arnette Shriver, 78, of Wadestown, WV died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born March 9, 1933 at Wadestown, a son of Wilma Steele Shriver of Wadestown and the late Solomon Howard Shriver.
Howard was a retired Special Assistant to the WVU Associate Provost for Extension and Economic Development. Although his career was highlighted by major contributions in such areas as agriculture, 4-H, and rural development, he is particularly known for his personality and his love of people. Much of his career was devoted to helping both clients and employees improve their skills and abilities.
He was a lifelong member of the West Warren Baptist Church in Wadestown where he served as superintendent and as the head deacon.
Dr. Shriver was a United States Army veteran who served in the signal corp.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Sue Ammons Shriver; one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Lynn and Debra Joyce Shriver of Wadestown; one daughter, Pamela Lynnette Shriver of Wadestown; one grandson and his wife, Christopher S. and Tracy Shriver of Hundred; and a great-grandson, Micah James Howard Shriver, who is due to be born in July.
Funeral services will be held at the West Warren Baptist Church in Wadestown at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2011, with the Pastor Jack Snoderly and Evangelist Randy Cook officiating. A fellowship luncheon will be served at the church immediately after the funeral service. Graveside services will be held at 5:00 PM at the Wadestown Cemetery with burial to follow.
