Robert Henry English, 89, of Newark, Delaware went to be with the Lord March 13 at Christiana Hospital. Bob was born in Atlanta, GA, September 30, 1921 and grew up in Panama, Hawaii, California and other areas where his father, a naval officer, was stationed. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech, Bob completed the World War II years serving in the U. S. Navy. In 1946 he began his 35 year career with DuPont, working first at the Belle Plant near Charleston, West Virginia, and then at Louviers in Newark. Bob's beloved spouse for 61 years until her death in 2008 was the former Vivian Ray Snider of Hundred, WV, whom he married February 22, 1947. Bob was a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Newark, where he was a strong supporter of missions and in earlier years participated in church projects including mission trips for disaster relief. He was also involved in the local Alzheimer's Association. Bob loved nature and spent many vacations at WV state parks, the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway, and touring the National Parks in the west. His favorite hobby was golf. He enjoyed photography and was a master story teller. Bob will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sister, Eloise English Davies of Chestertown, MD; his daughter, Marian E. English of Richmond, VA; and his son, Robert H. English III, and wife Teresa of Smyrna, DE. He is survived also by his grandson, Nathan Hackney and wife Stacey of Bear, DE and by a number of nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded by his parents, Rear Admiral Robert H. English and Eloise Walker English and by his sister, Cornelia English Monthan.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New Freeport, PA with the Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred, WV is in charge of local arrangements.
