Richard "Dick" Bartrug, 81, a lifelong resident of Burton passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
Richard was born at Hundred, WV on November 12, 1923, the son of the late Lewis R and Georgia Yost Bartrug.
Dick worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp building dams and fences in Nevada and Utah. He served in the United States Army during World War II, a member of the Earl Kiger American Legion Post #120 of Hundred, and a member of the Sancho Church of Christ. He was self employed for many years running Dick's Place in Hundred. He sponsored the "Dick's Place" softball team and enjoyed wood working and spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lucille Ann Cumpston Bartrug; seven children and spouses, Russell "Dick" and Lana Bartrug of Martinsburg, WV, Sara Louise "Sally" and John Ammons of Wadestown, Sam and Marty Bartrug of Woodsfield, Ohio, Ralph and Sue Bartrug, Debbie and Dale Cork, Rhonda "Spunk" and Ron Askew, all of Burton, and Katherine "Kaye" Bartrug of Morgantown. He is also survived by the following grandchildren, John Richard & Jenny Ammons, David Ammons and friend Jess Bedillon, Rojack and Lisa Ammons, all of Wadestown, and Lisa & Joe Sollars of Daybrook, Mandy & Mike Daymude of Hedgesville, Leigh Anne & Stephen Hehr of Marietta, Ohio, Judy & Rick Lawrence of Alamance, NC, and Richard "Ike" Bartrug of New Martinsville, Shannon Bartrug, Sarah Bess Gibbons and Tommy Cork, all of Burton; eight great-grandchildren, Makenna, Kaitlyn, Nate, Alivia, Tristen, Abbey, Chase, Joleigh, Noah, Gabe, Jack Samuel, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Powell and Evelyn Myers; a nephew William "Bill" Powell, his Aunt Bessie L. Bartrug who raised him, and a great-grandson, Tyler John Ammons, and two sons-in-law, Gary Freeland and James Gibbons.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 7-9 PM Saturday and from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Monday with the Evangelist Tom Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Harmony Cemetery at Burton.
