Ronald Keith Cunningham went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2006 at his residence. He put up a hard fight with cancer for four months.
He was born on August 20, 1941 at Burton, WV, in a log cabin built by his father on Pogue Road.
Ron was the first child of Charles Beryl Cunningham and Mildred Mearl Spragg Cunningham. He was a devoted son and helped take care of both his father and mother until the day they both went to be with the Lord.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Lynn Butcher Cunningham whom he married on April 18, 1962. Also surviving are three children and their spouses, Penny Lynn Cunningham Novak and her husband Gary; Michael "Perry" Cunningham and his wife, Leann; and Troy Lee Cunningham and his wife Patricia; five grandchildren, Jennifer Elise Mayer and her fiance' Mike Cogar, Jami Lynn Mayer and fiance' Timmy O'Dell, Andrew Michael Cunningham, Shane Austin Novak, and Paige Brooke Novak; and one great-grandson, Kobi Allen O'Dell.
Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Pamela Jean Conaway and her husband Larry. Pam always referred to her brother as "Bub". One aunt on his mother's side of the family, Wilma Yeager, who he always called Aunt "Omi" and her husband Bill; several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Hundred High School in Hundred, WV in 1959. He also graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics in McKeesport, PA.
Ron worked for United Air Lines for five years in New York, New Jersey and Virginia. He then returned to Bridgeport, WV where he worked for Aeromech after which he was employed by Helicopter Patrol owned by George Reno until they went out of business in 1976. Ron was then employed by Carnegie Natural Gas Company for twenty years in Mannington, WV. Ron got caught up in downsizing and took his early retirement at the age of 55. In 1996 he went to work for Mountain State Auto Auction and worked there for 10 years.
The family would like to thank several people, first and above all God. The ladies from Hospice who were from United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. Special thanks to Julia, Liz, and Stephanie, they were absolutely awesome, to Pastor Tom for always being there when we needed him to talk or just visit and listen while we talked. Thanks to all our family and friends and an extra special thanks to my sister, and best friend, Patricia Ann Butcher Delaney.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Sunday at the Bridgeport Baptist Church, 556 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV with Pastor Tom Edgell officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Sancho Cemetery, Hundred, WV.
There will be no dinner at the church after the service, but everyone is welcome at the Cunningham residence following the graveside service.
