Lloyd S. Butcher, 86, of Hundred, WV died Tuesday in the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born August 12, 1921 in Hundred, a son of the late Oscar E. and Manie Barger Butcher.
He was a member of the Hundred Church of Christ. Lloyd was retired from Hope (Dominion) Gas Company. He was a World War II veteran who was a sergeant in the United States Army stationed in Alaska and the Allusion Islands. He entered the Army on June 13, 1942. He was a member of the Earl Kiger American Legion Post #120 of Hundred, a member of the VFW and Elks in Fairmont and the Moose Lodge in Mannington.
Lloyd was a graduate of Hundred High School class of 1940. He attended Fairmont State College and Salem College and played basketball while in college.
He was an avid WVU sports fan who attended university sporting events for over 50 years. He also previously coached youth baseball and basketball teams in Hundred.
He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved companion of 43 years, Roberta Moore, of Fairmont.
Lloyd was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are 8 nieces and nephews and their spouses; Kathy and Myron Seese of Hundred, Colonel John and Joanie Butcher of Stafford, VA, Judy and Mark Merritt, Debbie and Kevin Phillis, and Michael and Jamie Brzuzy, all of Monaca, PA, Sally and Harry Rishell and Linda Butcher of Waynesburg, PA, and Carol Ann Mullen of Staten Island, NY; two sisters-in-laws, Alberta Butcher of Mt. Lebanon, PA and Roxie Butcher of Staten Island, NY. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, James V. Butcher, Howard E. Butcher, Ralph O. Butcher, John P. Butcher, and David R. "Dick" Butcher, and one sister, Ruth Ann Brzuzy.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Saturday with the Evangelist Steve Stevens and Pastor Linda Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Harmony Cemetery at Burton.
