ALDA POWELL
Alda Roberta Powell, 82, of Hundred, WV died Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in the J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born April 17, 1937 at Allentown, PA, a daughter of the late Joseph M. Newman and Grace Winnick Newman.
Alda worked as a private duty caregiver for the elderly. In Hundred she was known as the “hat lady”. Each year around Christmas she would make 100 hats and give them out at the Town of Hundred Christmas Celebration. She always made a joke out of it because she was making 100 hats for Hundred.
Surviving are five sons, Thomas Powell of Hundred, Charles Powell of Shippensburg, PA, Robert Powell of Waynesboro, PA, Patrick Powell of Barrackville, WV, and Edward Powell of Grafton, WV; one daughter, Grace Alda Grimm of Newville, PA; one brother, Raymond Newman of Palmetto, Florida; twenty grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Powell; and six siblings, Russell Newman, Robert Newman, John Newman, Patricia Stump, Shirley Sylvester, and Mary Gaygan.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 1 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2019. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jason Morgan officiating. Following services Alda’s request for cremation will be honored.
