JOHN E. LAVELLE

            John Edward Lavelle, 93, of Uniontown, WV died Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Wheeling Hospital.

            He was born October 9, 1925 at Uniontown, WV, a son of the late Patrick J. Lavelle and Lena Mary Argabrite Lavelle.

            John was a graduate of Hundred High School class of 1944.  Following high school he went to a trade school in Chicago, Illinois.  He later worked in construction from 1950 to 1974.  After working in construction John worked in the oil and gas business.  He was President of L & M Oil & Gas which he operated for many years. 

            He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mannington where he served on the church council.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Mannington.

            John was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy.  He was a survivor on the USS Bush which sank at sea near Okinawa.  He was a member of the Earl Kiger American Legion Post #120 of Hundred.

            Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Audrey Lavelle; one niece, Patty Ann Blackburn and her husband James, and their children Shelly Blackburn, Tracy and Dustin Leek, and Kevin & Shelley Blackburn; and several other nieces and nephews.

            In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Donald Lavelle; and one niece, Donna Lavelle.

            Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 5-8 PM Thursday with a rosary and vigil rights service being held at 7:00 PM.  Catholic Funeral Liturgy will held at 10:30 AM Friday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mannington with Fr Vincy Illickall and Fr William Anderson officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.

Dear Audrey,
I am sorry to hear that John has passed on. My thoughts are with you at this time. He was a dear friend to my parents as you are also. 69 years married is a great tribute to you both.
