Okey Ervin Simmons, 76, of Daybrook, WV died Sunday, March 20, 2016 in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born June 21, 1939 in Corinth, WV a son of the late Adrian Ray Simmons and Edith L. Strawser Simmons.
Mr. Simmons died from complications of heart disease. He had a LVAD placed in his body three years ago.
Okey was a member of the Daybrook Church of Christ.
He was retired from the United States Postal Service in 1999. He was a veteran of the United States Navy Sea Bees.
Mr. Simmons was an interpreter at Pricketts Fort for 15 years but had been a volunteer with them for at least 43 years.
Surviving are his wife, Pandora Sue Simmons to whom he had been married for 52 years. They had two children, David Simmons and Debbie Jones and her husband Kevin Jones, who was his very best son-in-law; three grandchildren and their spouses, Steven Simmons and his wife Megan, Vicki Carpenter and her husband Matthew Carpenter, and Colby Jones; great-grandchildren, Lacie Carpenter and Richard Carpenter; two brothers, Billy Simmons and his wife Norma of Carolina and their daughter, Kristina and her husband Rocky Hartley, and Adrian Simmons and his wife Marie of Waldorf, MD and their children Marqueta Stachura and Jeff Simmons.
At the request of the deceased his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville is in charge of arrangements.
