Wilford Glenden (Rip) DeVine of Daybrook passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at his home.
He was born on April 12, 1930 at Mooresville, the eldest son of the late Gilbert Victor DeVine and Gracie Mae Statler DeVine.
Rip, along with his wife Bonnie, owned and operated DeVine's Amoco Service Station from 1956 to 1972. Throughout this time, he also worked at Williamson Shaft, Humphrey #7 Mine, and Jordan #93. He retired in 1992 after spending 17 years as the superintendent at Blacksville #2.
Some of the things Rip enjoyed were family vacations, camping with friends, coon hunting, and riding horses. Upon retirement, he liked being at the farm, trail riding, and playing music. He was a member of two bands, the Country D.J.'s and Jake and Friends, and enjoyed entertaining at nursing homes, benefits, and local fairs.
Rip leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Donna & Merle Varner of Pentress, Pam & Bruce Arnett of Jakes Run, and Jodie & Jeff Shriver of Daybrook; seven grandchildren, Dina Varner of Pentres, Kip (Kami) Varner of Stephens City, VA, Brady Arnett of Pittsburgh, Mindy Arnett of Jakes Run, Marsha Arnett of Arnettsville, and Taylor and Madison Shriver of Daybrook; three great-grandchildren, Lucas and Logan Varner, and Aubrey Lane Varner; two brothers, Gilbert DeVine of Greensburg, PA and Newt (Mary Ann) DeVine of Macdale; two sisters, Naomi Jane Tennant of Cross Roads and Gail (Bob) Berry of Daybrook, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rip was preceded in death in 2011 by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Jo DeVine; a brother-in-law, Charles Tennant; a nephew, Alan Tennant; and a loving grandson, Cody Lane Shriver who passed away in 2007.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Rip's niece, Debbie, and friends, Wilda and Martha for their devoted care and companionship. We would also like to thank Jamie, Tracey, and the staff at Amedisys Hospice.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Monday with the Evangelist Dick Bartrug officiating. Interment will follow in the Daybrook Cemetery.
