Martha Jane Gallagher, 93, of Klondike Community, Fairview, WV died Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Mapleshire Nursing Home in Morgantown.
She was born at Fairview, February 14, 1923, a daughter of the late Lawrence R. Tennant and Macy Price Tennant.
Martha Jane attended schools in the Fairview area until her last year and she graduated from Clay-Battelle High School in 1941.
She married her husband, Nelson N. Gallagher, on November 16, 1942.
Mrs. Gallagher was a member of the Highland Church where she served as the church pianist and Sunday school teacher.She was a member of the Crossroads Needle club where she learned to quilt.Quilting turned out to be one of her favorite hobbies.Later she was a member of the Wadestown Women’s Club and a director of the Battelle District Fair of Wadestown.In her later years she joined the Blacksville Senior Citizens where she enjoy playing in the kitchen band.She was also a member of the Blacksville Lions Club and she was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Fairmont where she had worked at Owens-Illinois for over 18 years.
Surviving are one son and his spouse, Nelson Dale Gallagher and his wife Cheryl of Crossroads; two daughters, Shirley Sue Walker and her husband Thomas “Boge” of Wadestown andMary Lou Horseman and her husband Lee of Davenport, Florida; six grandchildren, Sandy Caho, Gregg Roush, Brian Gallagher, Kristy Joyce, Julie Vanderhoff, and Clint Walker; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris M. Simpson of Wana; a half-brother, Joseph Tennant and his wife Sheila of Wadestown; and one step-sister, Mildred Taylor of Wadestown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson N. Gallagher; sisters, Louise Hibbs, Aldine Johnson, and Shirley Mace; brothers, Hershell Lee Tennant and Lawrence Alford Tennant; step-mother, Orpha Tennant; step-brothers, George Price, Lawrence W. Price, and Junior Russell Price.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 2-4 & 6-9 PM Monday.Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Tuesday with Pastor David Spears officiating.Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery.
