Ray Statler, 89, of Morgantown, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at his residence.
He was born June 29, 1923, at Mooresville, a son of the late Plummer Statler and Hazel Roupe Statler.
Mr. Statler was a retired coal miner. He worked as a lamp man at the Federal #2 Mine on Miracle Run. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America District #31, and local 1570.
He was a methodist by faith. Ray was a United States Army Veteran having served in World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Wade Statler; three sons and their spouses, Allen Statler and wife Dorothy of Lordstown, OH, Arnold Statler and wife Debra of Morgantown, Allen E. Wade and wife Gladys of Blacksville; one daughter, Carole and husband Denny Mack of Appling, GA; one brother, James Statler of Daybrook; one sister, Jane Trader of Daybrook; ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Gerald Statler, Edgar Statler, Stanley Statler, Donald Statler, and Delmont Statler; one sister, Aldine Loring; three grandchildren, Traci Crosby, Allen Statler, and Emma Mack; and a twin brother and sister who died as infants.
At the request of the deceased all services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the St. Luke Cemetery at Mooresville.
The Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville is in charge of arrangements.
