ALVIN “BUCK” CROSS
Alvin “Buck” Cross, 80, of New Freeport, PA died Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born September 5, 1940 at Hundred, WV a son of the late Dutchie Cross and Myrtle Lancaster Cross.
Buck was a school bus driver for 19 years and drove for Ralph Conklin; he was a farmer having spent a lot of time living on the Renner Farm; he worked in the oil and gas industry for several years; and he was a member of the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years and attained the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Grandview United Methodist Church which is now closed. Buck also was a member of the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving is his wife, Evelyn Calvert Cross, whom he married on June 11, 2020; one son and his spouse, Brian Wise and his wife Heather of Mather, PA; two grandchildren, Joshua Wise and Isabella Wise; and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Cross.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 6 to 8 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Cross officiating. Interment will follow in the Sancho Cemetery near Hundred.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department, New Freeport, PA 15352.
Pallbearers will be Brian Wise, Joshua Wise, Burl Hughes, Scott Miller, Michael Anderson, and Harley Wise.

Buck was a great fellow. I always enjoyed talking to him and loved his laugh. He will truly be missed.
Buck was the best bus driver. Always made sure we were safe.

Buck was my bus driver all through school. I have so many fond memories of him driving us on field trips in grade school and tolerating all of our water battles in high school. I am saddened by this news and I am so sorry for your loss!

Its so sad to hear of buck's passing. When we lived in new freeport. We met him thru dion mcdonnell. He was so great with my son joshua. Showed him alot at his house. R.i.p buck. Ur family is in our prayers. Didnt know he just got married to his wife last year. Thought they was married back in 2013 2014 when we met them. Sad sad sad.
