Carol Lorraine Tennant Thomas, 79, of Fairview (Jakes Run Community) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She departed this life peacefully, having fought a long and courageous battle against cancer. Her faith and trust in God were without measure.
She was born in Jakes Run on October 11, 1926, the daughter of the late Andy and Audie Henderson Tennant.
Mrs. Thomas graduated from Clay-Battelle High School in Blacksville in 1945. Upon graduation she began working at Owens-Illinois Glass Factory in Fairmont, WV. She worked there for 13 years.
Carol was the beloved wife of James S. Thomas II "Jimmy" whom she met and wed on October 8, 1957, loving mother of Jamie Thomas and his wife Sonya of Jakes Run, a very special grandson, Colten James Thomas, whom she loved to spend time with.
She is also survived by two brothers, Robert N. Tennant and wife Rosella of Fairview, David A. Tennant and his wife Virginia of Fairmont; three sisters, Mary Lou Lemley and her husband Eugene Lemley of Mt. Morris, PA, Rebecca Steele and her husband Gary Steele and Dianne Hunnell and her husband Charles Hunnell, all of Jakes Run. Several nieces and nephews.
Carol was a member of the Jakes Run Assembly of God Church.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and hosting swimming parties at her home with the entire Tennant family. She loved gardening, cooking, and shopping. She leaves behind not only her family, but also a host of neighbors, friends, and her church family that will miss her dearly.
The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Dr. John Azar, the nursing staff at Fairmont General Hospital, and the staff of Hospice Care Corp, especially Rachel.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Jakes Run Assembly of God Church with Rev. Rob Bennett officiating. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.
