Ernest Henry Rack, III, 65, of Daybrook, WV passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at his residence.

The son of Elsie Rack of Poughkeepsie, NY and the late Ernest H. Rack, Jr. Ernie was born on May 27, 1946.

An Eagle Scout, he served in the Navy from September 1964 to November 1972 on the USS Springfield and the USS Preble.

He worked for Green Fan, and later IBM before retiring in 1994, and was currently employed at West Virginia University Hospital at the help desk.

A talented woodworker, Ernie loved camping, hunting, and working on cars. He enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and watching 'his' WVU Mountaineers play football and basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Barbara L. Rack of Daybrook; two daughters, Jessie Rack of Storrs Mansfield, CT and Amanda Rack of Staunton, VA; a brother, Jim Rack of Grand Rapids, MN; two sisters, Barbara Sciacca and her husband Joe or Hardy, VA and Nancy Miner and her husband Jim or Redford, NY; two sisters-in-law, Pat Cotton and her husband Bernie of Palenville, NY and Janet Fisher and her husband Aaron of Woodbridge, VA. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Mary Babb Randolf Cancer Center and Nine West for five years of treatment and caring. A special thank you to Morgantown Hospice (Nancy, Karen, Tony, Sandy, and Laurel) for caring above and beyond the norm.

Friends will be received at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville, WV from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Saturday with the Rev. Freddie Eddy, II officiating. Interment will follow in the Lemley Cemetery near Blacksville.
