GEORGE H. WILLIAMS

George Williams, age 89, of Knob Fork, WV passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at his home.  George was the son of the late George Harmon Williams, Sr. and Laura Carney Williams, and he was preceded in death by 6 of his siblings and is survived by his brother Edwin.

People say that George Williams was a jack of all trades, and he was.  George graduated from Hundred High School in 1951 and decided to enlist in the Navy.  In 1954, during his 4th year in the service he married the love of his life, Betty Williams.  The two moved to Rhode Island together but later returned to West Virginia where George enrolled in WVU.  While working on his degree in Psychology, the two had their first child, Brian.  George had the opportunity to sell real estate in Parkersburg following his graduation.  After a few years there, Betty wanted to move back to the family farm.  Shortly thereafter, they welcomed their daughter, Erin, in 1961.

George got a job managing Hundred’s insurance agency, which he later purchased.  At that time, he was asked to serve as Justice of the Peace for a brief period.  They joined the Hundred Methodist Church where George became a lay speaker and delivered multiple sermons.  Along the way, George helped start Hundred Home Hardware, Hundred Lumber Company, and was chairman of the Bank of Hundred board of directors.  He was a volunteer for the fire department and, at one point, was a boy scout leader.  George was a partial founder of the Hundred-Littleton Alumni Association and for 2 years spent his evenings building the Hundred swimming pool.

George and Betty were especially grateful to God for richly blessing their family with 2 children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.  He was a generous and hardworking man who was a highly respected member of the Hundred community.  A jack of all trades; his proudest of which being his job as the patriarch of the Williams family, alongside his loving wife of 68 years.

Surviving is his wife, Betty; his brother Ed Williams; son Brian and his wife Carmen; their daughters, Kaela and husband Fred, Trista and husband Gary, Shaina and husband Garrett, and their children Max, Emma, Keira, Kase, and Ty.

As well as George and Betty’s daughter Erin and her husband Mark, and their children, Abigail, Jared, Jordan and his wife Jess, and their sons Paxton and Boden.

All services will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family.

The Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred is in charge of the arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Hundred United Methodist Church, c/o Betty Williams, Treasurer, 1288 Robinson Ridge Road, Littleton, WV   26581.

The times I went fishing with George and my dad are some of the greatest memories of my lifetime. From me falling in the water, to my dad catching his limit, to George catching trout after trout under the Bemis bridge. So many memories, so many fun times. The conversations we had about fishing, life, politics, on and on were just incredible. One of the nicest, smartest guys I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Thanks for taking me fishing George (and dad) it helped make me the person I am today.

Betty, I just heard late Friday of George's passing. I m so sorry to hear it. I always enjoyed talking to you two when I was able to come to Church.
