Geraldine Meek Kirby, 81, of New Freeport, PA died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 in the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born September 15, 1924 in Washington, PA, the daughter of the late James T. Meek and Emma W. Barnhart Meek.
She was a graduate of Aleppo High School. She worked at Continental Can Company during World War II. After the war she stayed at home and raised her two sons.
On December 28, 1943 she married James W. Kirby, who died on July 9, 1972. In 1981 she married Charles Fonner who died in 1991.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth E. Kirby, Sr; several grandchildren including Kenneth E. Kirby, Jr. who lived with Mrs. Kirby and took care of her; several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a step-son, Ira Fonner of Follansbee, WV.
In addition to her parents and her two husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis W. Kirby, Sr., a sister, Alberta L. Bendily and a brother, Garylord G. "Mick" Meek.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred, WV from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Friday with the Rev. Kenneth Curfman officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Cemetery, Aleppo, PA.
