Jack Leon Delaney, 82, of Burton, WV died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born August 23, 1932 at St. Leo, a son of the late Oakle and Georgia Ornduff Delaney.
Surviving are his wife, Patty Butcher Delaney, whom he married on June 6, 1953. One daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Cross and her husband Steve of Bridgeport; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David Delaney of Fairmont and Robert (Bob) Delaney and his wife Marsha of Fairmont; two granddaughters and their spouses, Melodi Egress and her husband Chris of Rachel and Mandi Martin and her husband Timmy of Fairmont; one great-grandson, Trey Martin of Fairmont; one sister, Rosalie Straight of Mannington; two brothers, Charles Delaney of Bracketville, TX and Kenneth Delaney and his wife Linda of Awada, CO; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Garnet Butcher of Shinnston, a sister-in-law, Rose Butcher of Akron, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was employed by Westinghouse/Phillips Light Corp for 43 years.
He was a member of the Hundred Church of Christ.
Mr. Delaney served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded five battle stars. He was a member of the Earl Kiger American Legion Post #120 of Hundred.
Jack loved to plant a garden and share fresh vegetables with his neighbors. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races on TV, hunting, and baking bread.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert Delaney and his wife Gilberetta; Arthur Delaney and his wife Jewell; and Leo Delaney; one sister, Elizabeth Delaney; and a sister-in-law, Margie Delaney.
The family would like to thank the Morgantown office of Amedisys Hospice staff, Dr. Douglas Wolfe, Dr. John Azar, and Dr. Roger Abraham, for their exceptional care of Jack during his illness.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 5-9 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 AM Friday with the Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in the Sancho Cemetery near Hundred.
