James W. Longwell, 70, of Littleton, WV died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born March 7, 1935 on Windy Ridge near Hundred, a son of the late John William Longwell and Minnie Evelyn Postlewait Longwell.
Mr. Longwell was a retired crane operator who retired with 37 years of service with Ormet Corporation.
He was a member of the Littleton Lodge #131 AF & AM. He had recently been inducted into the Golden Circle Hall of Fame of Country Music. He was a member of the Seven Pines Nondenominational Church but he attended the Solid Rock Baptist Church. Mr. Longwell loved to sing and play music and he was known as the "Leader of the Band" in the group that he sang with.
Surviving are his second wife, Bertha B. Moore Longwell; two sons & spouses, Samuel & Karen Longwell of Hundred and James "Tate" and Janey Longwell of New Martinsville; two daughters & spouses, Janet & Donald "Jake" Wyckoff of Hundred and Peggy "Dodi" & Ronald Talkington of Rachel; eight grandchildren and spouses, Joshua "Thad" and Kimberly Longwell, Dana and Amanda Longwell, Alana Longwell, Belinda Longwell, Philip Longwell, Trenton Longwell, Kaitlyn Talkington, and Dakota Talkington; five great-grandchildren, Cara Longwell, Camden Longwell, Nicklas "Trey" Longwell, Hailey Longwell, and Kemper Longwell; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores Jean "Babe" Longwell; three brothers, Harlan, Newman, and Denzil Longwell and three sisters, Wanda Jobes, Versa McDiffitt, and Merle Longwell.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2:00 PM Saturday with the Pastor Larry Holtz officiating. Interment will follow in the Cunningham Memorial Gardens at Burton.
I am Trenton Longwells daughter. I was born in 2009 but I still adore my ancestors, Kemper Longwell is my much older brother. He is 16 i am 10. W e also have Ashton; 14 and Mia; 8.
