John E. Simpson, 74, of Daybrook, WV died Monday, March 21, 2011 in the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born January 28, 1937 at Blacksville, a son of the late Orville Waldo Simpson and Gay B. Tennant Simpson.

Mr. Simpson was a retired coal miner. He was a United States Army veteran. He was a liftime member of the NRA and the North American Hunting Club. Having been a coal miner, he was a member of United Mine Workers of American Local #2258.

John was affiliated with the Daybrook Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Lou Simpson; three sons and their spouses, Grant and Teresa Simpson of Blacksville; Richard Simpson and Tracey Freeman of Fairmont, and Eric Simpson of Morgantown; one daughter and spouse, Jennifer and Tommy Eddy, Jr. of Fairmont; one sister, Bessie Lou Smith of Proctor; and ten grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Lillie Tennant.

Friends will be received at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Friday with Pastor James Weber officiating. Interment will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
