John George Carpenter, 66, of Daybrook, WV died Monday, December 15, 2008 at his residence.
He was born July 16, 1942 at Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Samuel G. Carpenter and Nannie Mae Rager Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter was a United States Navy veteran. In his early life he worked in the coal mines and last worked at Pennsylvania Livetock Auction in Waynesburg, PA.
Surviving are his wife, Edna McCoy Carpenter; five sons, Samuel D. Carpenter of Daybrook, John G. Carpenter of Fairmont, Thomas L. Carpenter of Fairmont, Dale Allen Carpenter of Fairmont, and George Luther Carpenter of Daybrook; three brothers, Arley Carpenter of Daybrook, Fay Carpenter of Daybrook, and Clyde Carpenter of Petersburg, VA; two sisters, Mazzie McCoy and Nora McCoy, both of Daybrook; sixteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, John Henry Carpenter, who died as an infant and a sister who died as an infant.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 6-9 PM Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Saturday with Pastor Freddie Eddy officiating. Interment will follow in the McCoy Cemetery at Daybrook.
