Lance Corporal Steven Lee Phillips, 27, of Spraggs, PA died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 in Al Qaim, Iraq of injuries sustained in a humvee rollover.

Steven was born April 27, 1978 in Waynesburg, PA a son of James C. Phillips and Paulette Tennant Phillips of Spraggs, PA.

Prior to joining the military he worked as an engineer, draftsman and designer for Box USA. He was a member of the Spraggs United Methodist Church.

Steven was a member of the 3rd Betallion, 6th Marines, 2nd Division, Weapons Platoon, United States Marine Corp. He was serving in his third deployment overseas. This last time he had served for seven months and had approximately one month to go to complete his overseas duty.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his biological mother and step-father, Deb and Don Ten Eyck of Morgantown; his biological father and step-mother, Joe and Mary Wright of Cameron, one brother, Travis Ten Eyck of Morgantown, three sisters, Annie Algar of Pittsburgh, PA, Brandi Wright of Cameron, and Chiquila "Chic" Ross of Waynesburg, PA; his maternal grandparents, Fayne and Mary Sue Tennant of Daybrook; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ed and Marlene Phillips.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday and from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Friday with the Rev. Kathy Higgins officiating. Interment will follow in the Blacksville Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spraggs United Methodist Church, c/o Gail Church, Treasurer, 127 Dewey Ave, Spraggs, PA 15362.
