Our mother, Margaret Elizabeth Martens, passed away on the morning of Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.She was the loving wife of the late Reverend Warren G. Martens and the devoted mother of three sons, Robert, Daniel, and Thomas, and a daughter Margaret.

Margaret was the daughter of the late Ernest and Georgia Hunt of Burton, WV.She was born on February 25, 1931 and grew up with her two sisters and four brothers on the family farm.She graduated from Fairmont General Hospital, School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1953, and that same year, she married Rev. Warren Martens of College Point, NY.

She left the nursing profession when her first child was born and became a full-time mother, homemaker, and active church member.She participated in many church clubs such as the charitable Wij Dienen (Dutch for “We Serve”), the Dorcas Society, and the Couples Club.She rejoined the nursing profession when her children grew older, and worked at The Rockland County Infirmary in Pomona, NY until 1986.

After her husband Warren retired in 1996, Margaret and Warren happily moved to their final home on their beautiful property in Burton, WV.There they attended the Harmony Baptist Church and became involved with the community and religious activities of the Burton, Hundred, and Mannington area.

Margaret was always devoted to the well-being of her children and grandchildren.She was generous, kind, humble, and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her sons Robert and his wife Marianne; Daniel and his wife Heather and their children, Emily, Samuel, and Thomas; Thomas and his wife Annette and their children, Colleen, Kathleen, and Victoria; her daughter Margaret and her three children, Michael, Jessica, and Christopher; her sister Agnes, wife of Chester Cline of St. Clairsville, Ohio; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy, wife of the late George Hunt of Burton.

Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 6-9 PM Tuesday.Funeral services will be held in the Harmony Baptist Church at 10:00 AM Wednesday with the Pastor Linda Roberts officiating.Interment will follow in the Harmony Cemetery at Burton.
