Maxine Catherine Statler, 87, of Mooresville was ushered by the Angels to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at her residence.
Maxine was born May 23, 1922, the daughter of the late David and Audia Toothman.
Maxine graduated from Morgantown High School in 1941. She was a member of the Olive United Methodist Church. Maxine was a very active person in the community. For many years she served as secretary for the Farm Bureau, secretary for the church trustees, secretary of the Clay District Fair Association, and was one of the founding board members of the Clay-Battelle Public Service District and was very instrumental in getting water to the community. She was a member of the Mooresville Farm Womens Club and was active with the Daybrook and Clay-Battelle Senior Citizen Centers where she taught ceramics, quilted and played in the Kitchenair Band. Although she graduated from Morgantown High School she adopted the Blacksville High School and since 1973 has helped assure they have a reunion every year. Maxine did all of this while helping run the family farm, raise 7 children, be a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend who would always help when needed. She also had a great love of singing in the church choir.
She married her husband, Willis C. Statler on February 20, 1943 and together raised their family.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Chisler and husband Larry, Linda Morris and husband Howard, four sons, Ronald and wife Patricia Statler, Gary and wife Janet Statler, Nelson and wife Rosemary Statler, Joe and wife Louie Statler. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Merriman and Alleta Mae Kucish, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and another great-grandchild expected in October, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a son Richard Statler, a brother Harry Toothman, a sister Martha Glasscock, and father-in-law and mother-in-law D.R. and Stella Statler.
Friends will be received at the Olive United Methodist Church in Pentress from 2-9 PM Thursday, August 13 and from 12 to 2 PM the hour of the service on Friday with the Reverend Rose Saunders officiating.
