Mildred Angeline Rose Fickey, 82, of Blacksville, WV passed away on October 14, 2006 in the Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born November 2, 1923 at Pentress, West Virginia and was the daughter of Smith F. Rose and Oscie M. Tennant Rose.
Her beloved husband, William L. Fickey, preceded her in death on May 19, 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Willis and Waldo, and one sister, Ara Tennant.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita (Kay) Fickey of Terra Alta, WV, daughter Cheryl Fickey Prichard and son-in-law, Al Prichard of Morgantown, and grandchildren Zachary and Angeline. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Isabelle and Allen Wilkinson of Parkersburg, and brother-in-law, Donald (Tucker) and Lorraine Fickey of Henderson, KY, and several nieces and nephews.
Mildred was a special person who touched the lives of many. She cared about people. While in the hospital, she was constantly counting her blessings of family, friends, and neighbors. Among those she cherished who survive and will remember her are her neighbors, Mary and Raymond Copeland, Carroll (Cat) and JoAnn Ammons, Belinda Shriver, Mary Dale Price, and Clara Mae Dean.
Maya Angelou said "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel" Few people who knew Mildred Fickey will forget the beloved way she made them feel.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 7-9 PM Monday, and from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday. A service to celebrate the life of this remarkable woman will be held in the Blacksville United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 12:00 Noon with the Rev. David Lancaster and the Rev. Lynn Cartwright officiating. Interment will follow in the Blacksville Cemetery.
