Oneita Rae Stockdale Grimes, 92, of New Freeport, PA died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born November 5, 1925 in the home she has lived in her entire life.She was the daughter of the late Spencer Stockdale and Nettie Wright Stockdale.
On February 28, 1948, she married Charles A. “Chuck” Grimes who passed away on July 16, 2016.
She attended Freeport Township public schools and graduated from Hundred High School in 1944.Following high school, she was employed at the First National Bank for several years.
Mrs. Grimes was a devoted member of the Grandview United Methodist Church at Garrison where she was pianist for many years.She also held many offices through the years, the most recent was that of treasurer.Over the years she volunteered for many organizations to include the United Emergency Unit in Hundred, the Greene County Food Bank and the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Moore; brother-in-law, Ralph Six; sister-in-law, Carolyn Grimes; two nephews and their spouses, Doug & Wanda Six and Fred and Bobbie Six; three great-nephews, Adam Six, Hunter Six and Tanner Six; and a host of nieces and nephews on the Grimes side of the house.
In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Bonita “Bonnie” Moore, who passed away on January 16, 2016; one sister, Betty Jo Six; and one brother who died as an infant.
A memorial service will be held on February 10, 2018 at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV at 11:00 AM with Rev. Cynthia Deter officiating.
