Richard “Dick” Bartholomew, 81, of Pentress, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025.  Born 17 October 1943, in Bradford, PA, he was the loving son of Marian and Louise Bartholomew.  He shared a close bond with his brothers, Ronnie and Bob Toothman, and Jack Bartholomew. They were a fun-loving gang of boys well into adulthood.

Dick was known to his many friends for his generosity and willingness to lend a hand, and most especially for his joking and laughter.  His math, engineering, and design skills were also famous among his friends, as together they worked to “fix” or “create” something. He loved taking care of the farms and the animals and was happiest outdoors with Rex or one of his friends.

Dick shared 60 years of marriage with Sharon White Bartholomew and together they raised their daughter Dixee Bartholomew-Feis and many, many wayward animals that came in search of love and shelter.  They enjoyed many young people who initially came as kids to help with various projects or chores, and inevitably became a part of their network of “kids” who became friends. Those friends have been especially invaluable in the last year and he cherished their support and kindness to his last day.

Dick was the beloved father-in-law of Willam Feis and the “Poppi” to Phoebe E. and Lydia A. Feis.  He was always the center of fun and happiness for the grandgirls. And only they will know how big the many fish really were.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Dixee; his son-in-law Bill; his granddaughters Phoebe and Lydia; his brother Ronnie Toothman and niece Rhonda; his sister-in-law Jean White and nephew and niece Justin and Laura. He is missed by King Rex, the shepherd who spent every day taking care of, and watching over him, and all the kitties and cows.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral service.  He will be laid to rest at Mt. Tabor Cemetery alongside his wife, Sharon and generations of the White family of which he was such an important part.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia in Morgantown (Best Friends Animal Society.)

Owen-Neely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
