Richard C. Varner, 58, of Core died Thursday, July 26, 2007 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born July 6, 1949 at Pentress, WV a son of the late Charles R. Varner and Goldie I. Brewer Varner.

Rich was a former employee of Sterling Faucett Company where he had worked for 21 years. He played on the Sterling Faucett softball team and he loved to pitch horseshoes. He was a Methodist by faith. Rich was a United States Army veteran having served in Vietnam.

Surviving are his wife, Betty "Snooks" Trentini Varner; one son & daughter-in-law, Richard Allen Varner and his wife Alicia of Morgantown; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph Varner of Jakes Run, Everett and Pam Varner of Waynesburg, PA, Raymond and Lynn Varner of Mt. Morris, PA, Charles and Lucy Varner of Miracle Run, Derley "Jack" Varner of Jakes Run, and Ira "Buck" and Geraldine Varner of Jakes Run; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Hemmer and husband William of Jakes Run and Ethel Varner of Jakes Run; two grandchildren, Riley Alexandra Varner and Clayton Edward Varner; a half-sister, Betty Skedel of Valley Grove, WV; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Sue Varner of Morgantown; two former sisters-in-law, Delphia Lou Varner of Morgantown and Susan K. Varner of Waynesburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Monday with the Rev. Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown.
