Roy Adam Gower, 77, of McCurdysville, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at his residence.
He was born January 27, 1935 at St. George, WV, a son of the late Clay Roy and Fannie Alice Bohon Gower Jones, and the late Pete Jones.
Mr. Gower was a retired coal miner. He retired from Consolidation Coal Company Loveridge Mine with 43 years of service. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America District #31 in Fairmont.
Roy was a member of the Jakes Run Assembly of God for many years.
Mr. Gower proudly served his country by serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Claida Shillingburg Gower; three daughters and their spouses, Teresa Parker and husband Richard of McCurdysville, Marcella Riley and husband Tony of Charleston, and Natalie Harris and husband Bill of McCurdysville; three sisters and their husbands, Betty and Paul Barlow, Barbara and Woody Thomas, and Pat and Pete Nestor, all of Kingwood; five grandchildren and their spouses, Brandy and Justin Merrifield of Morgantown, Megan and Jeremiah Riggleman of McCurdysville, Billy Harris of McCurdysville, Arden Townsend and Grace Townsend, both of Charleston; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Donald Gower.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 4-9 PM Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Thursday with the Pastor Rob Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the McCurdysville Cemetery.
