Samuel K. Hibbs, Sr., 87, of Wadestown, WV died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Hibbs was born December 3, 1915 at Mobley, WV a son of the late William Riley Hibbs and Matilda Cross Hibbs.
He was a retired coal miner having retired with 30 years of service at the Consolidation Coal Company, Blacksville #1 Mine.During his years of service for the coal company he worked doing carpenter and masonry work.He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #31.He was a World War II Veteran having served with the United States Army.He was also a member of the Union Baptist Church of Crossroads.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Gump Hibbs; three sons and spouses, Billy G. Hibbs and Samuel K. Hibbs, Jr. and Betty all of Wadestown; and Bobby and Dianne Hibbs of Marcellus, Michigan; one daughter, Norma Tennant of Idamay; three brothers, Ernie Hibbs of Burton, James Hibbs of Fairmont, and Harold Hibbs of Washington, DC; two sisters, Lorraine Hibbs and Maxine Mack both of Fairmont; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Hibb, Robert Hibbs and John Hibbs; four sisters, Georgia Brewer, Alta Wilson, Bonnie Hibbs and Mae Parrish.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday.Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Wednesday with the Rev. Paul Donaldson officiating.Interment will follow in the Wadestown Cemetery.
