Thomas J. Simpson, 85, of Wana, WV went home to be with his beloved wife and sons on Monday November 28, 2011 at his residence.

He was born August 30, 1926, at Wana, the son of the late Thomas B. Simpson and Minerva Wise Simpson.

Tom was retired from Pursglove #15 mine. He was a member of the Wadestown Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years and the Earl Kiger American Legion Post #120 of Hundred for 60 years. Tom was also an honorary member of the Blacksville Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Wana United Methodist Church, Blacksville Senior Citizens, Waynesburg Moose, United Mine Workers of America Local 2122, Fraternal Order of Police, and he was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Dorothy Simpson, and three sons, Charles Dean Weakley, Thomas Robert Simpson, and Richard Wayne Simpson, and one grandson, James Thomas Newberry.

Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Martin of Pleasant Garden, NC and Sandra Newberry of Independence, MO; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Brookover of Pentress, seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wilbert D. Simpson of Wana, Luther B. Simpson of Archdale, NC, Alex Simpson of Waynesburg, PA, and Elmer Simpson of Louisville, OH; two sisters, Elva Dee Wilson of Waynesburg, PA and Mildred "Midge" Pratt of Carmichaels, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Saturday with the Rev. Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in the Wadestown Cemetery.
