Virginia A. King, formerly of MacDale, WV and recently of Oxford, OH died Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Knolls of Oxford. She was born February 2, 1915 at White Creek, WV daughter of the late J.B. Cooke and Nettie V. Cooke. She graduated from Wadestown High School and the Bernotat Beauty Academy. She owned and operated Virginia’s Beauty Shop in Blacksville for 17 years and retired after working for the Monongalia County Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service for 25 years. She was an active member of the Blacksville United Methodist Church where she served as organist and Sunday School teacher. She was a founding member of the Clay-Battelle Senior Citizen’s Center and a volunteer for the Clay-Battelle Area Family Services. She had been a member of the Rebecca Lodge for more than 50 years, a member of the IOOF Odd Fellows Lodge and a member of the Wadestown Women’s Club. Virginia enjoyed making crafts, quilting, weaving rugs and hugging her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Rex King, July, 1980, her second husband Robert W. Estel, October, 2004, three brothers, Paul, Burdette and Ralph Cooke and step-daughter Mary Jo Lemley. She is survived by her son William L. King and wife Susan of Oxford, OH; her son Robert W. King and wife Marian of Mayfield, KY; and stepson William Estel and wife Melanie of Burton, WV; grandchildren Robert Scott King and wife Peggy, Leanne Staley and husband Martin, Kara Kopper and husband Scott and Keven King and wife Tammy. great grandchildren include Emma, Abby, Grace and Sam King, Breanne Parks and Eric Staley and Rogan, Rebecca and Raquel Kopper.
Friends will be received at the Blacksville United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 28, 2009 from 12:00 Noon until the service hour. Funeral services will be held in the church at 2:00 PM with the Rev. David Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksville United Methodist Church, Ann Bragg, Treasurer, PO Box 235, Blacksville, WV 26521.
