Vivian Snider English, 92, of Newark, DE, a resident of the Manor Care-Pike Creek, went home to be with the Lord May 19, 2008 at Christiana Hospital.

Vivian was born in Garrison, PA, February 27, 1916 and worked at the Pentagon during World War II. Following her marriage she resided for 26 years in South Charleston, WV, and for the last 35 years in Newark. Vivian was a woman of great strength, compassion, purpose and tenderness, devoted to her family and to his Christian faith. She delighted in studying theology and in attending Bible conferences. As an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in South Charleston, she taught in the Sunday school and was a regular Bible teacher in a women's circle. At the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Newark she was for years the church librarian, writing regular book reviews for the church newsletter. She was actively involved in the Women in the Church and in the Young at Heart group and she supported the international mission of the church. The family is grateful to all of those who cared for her at Manor Care-Pike Creek.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert H. English, Jr, of Newark; her daughter, Marian E. English of Richmond, VA; and her son Robert H. English, III, and his wife Terri of Smyrna, DE. She is also survived by her grandson, Nathan Hackney of Bear, DE, and a number of nieces, nephews, and their families.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New Freeport, PA.

The Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred,WV is in charge of local arrangements.
