Wilma M. Whittaker, 88, of Daybrook, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at her residence.
She was born April 4, 1920 at Wadestown, WV a daughter of the late John E. and Rosetta M. Wright Criss.
Mrs. Whittaker was a homemaker. She was a Baptist by faith and attended the Truth Assembly Chapel of Wadestown. She was also a member of the Golden Glow Rebekah Lodge #299 of Wadestown since 1985.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Dorothy & husband Jake Barr of Daybrook, WV; Janet & husband Blaine Tennant of Plum Run, WV; and John & wife Sylvia Whittaker of Daybrook; sisters, Thelma Fordyce and daughters Linda and Helen of Pittsburgh, PA, Jean Schell and daughter Donna of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Dave and Janine Barr, Marsha Barr, Kevin Tennant, Tammy and Gary Jacobs, Paula Cummings, Tracy and Frank Heldreth, Kurtiss Tennant, Pamela Maxwell, Samantha Whittaker, Brandon and Tiffany Whittaker, and Matthew Whittaker; great-grandchildren, Jacob Barr, Meredith Barr, Tiffany Tennant, Erika Jacobs, Ashleigh Cummings, Andrew Cummings, Levi Heldreth, Danielle Heldreth, Zaccheus Tennant, Ella Tennant, Brianna Maxwell, Alex Whittaker, and Peyton Whittaker; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Freda and Richard Gunnoe of Charleston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Albert T. Whittaker, who died on August 21, 1982; one brother, William Criss; four sisters, Mildred Criss, Blanche Checkevicz, Kathryn Moran, and Freda Fordyce; and a Great-Aunt, Laura Fluharty.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Emila Polansky, Flo Holmes, Betty Stewart and Lois Tustin; and a special thanks to Hospice Care of Morgantown and Dr. Gabriella Horvath.
The Golden Glow Rebekah Lodge #299 of Wadestown will hold a service in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Tuesday.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the Truth Assembly Chapel near Wadestown at 11:00 AM Wednesday with the Pastor Jerry Teter and Rev. Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in the Wadestown Cemetery.
