ZANE LEE RUSH
Zane Lee Rush, 94, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021. He was the 2nd of 5 children of the late Everett and Marian Robinson Rush. He was born on July 14, 1927, in Earnshaw, WV.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Stiles Rush, to whom he was married for 72 years; a daughter, Kathy Crow and her husband Gwynn of North Carolina; two grandsons and their wives, Joshua and Nikki Skalko of Texas and Andrew and Ginger Skalko of NC; one sister, Julia K. Rush of Hundred, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Zane was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving on a ship in the South Pacific. He earned both a Bachelor’s degree and a Masters’s degree from West Virginia University and an advanced degree from the University of Maryland in counseling. He was a high school teacher and wrestling coach in both West Virginia and Maryland and retired from Rockville High School in Maryland after many years as Guidance Counselor.
He was honored by having two sites named for him-the Zane Lee Rush auditorium at Rockville High School in Maryland and the swimming pool clubhouse at his community in Wilmington.
Zane was an active member holding several offices in the Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church in Wilmington, NC. He served in the choir and men’s chorus in both Wilmington and Rockville, MD.
He particularly enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and reading.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Beth Rush; a sister, Wanda Joan Boord; and two brothers, Ernest Rush and Neil Rush.
Funeral services were held at his church in Wilmington on Thursday, December 23, 2021. Burial was on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 in the Wadestown Cemetery, Wadestown, WV, with Rev. Lynn Keener officiating. Arrangements were by Andrews Mortuary in Wilmington, NC and the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred, WV.
